[Recap] Long Khong Series EP 3: Voodoo is So Fetch

ep3-1.png

Oh, hey! This episode is rated PG-13. It's been G for the past two episodes. Does this mean something juicy happened? The episode opens with Praewa being up to no good. She didn't plan out the size of her letters ahead of time which is just a bad idea when you wanna create a poster or something. Anyway, she writes "unnatural death" on a piece of paper in blood. And by unnatural I mean like drowning, getting shot or falling from great heights, etc.

Khaimook seems to be the only one grieving over Kin's unnatural death. I suppose she feels responsible for using voodoo on Kin and Nat. The rest of The Squad carries on with practicing and choosing a new center like nothing has happened.

Praewa meets up with Justin and suddenly she's being added to the team to replace Kin out of the blue. Justin is strangely enthusiastic about allowing Praewa to join. Of course, everyone on the team is against it. Aside from Praewa's creepiness factor, maybe she doesn't even know how to dance, they point out. So Praewa dances a simple routine which impresses everyone even though they don't want to admit it, Aya in particular. She refuses to let this happen but unfortunately for her, Justin has the final say and Praewa is in.

Min is curious as to why Justin is suddenly Praewa's number one fan since he has always been lukewarm to her. We flashback to Praewa stealing Justin's used tissues that he excessively pulled to wipe his sweat during practice. No, seriously. Girlfriend pulls out like at least 7 pieces and dabs a single drop of sweat before throwing them out. Anyway, Praewa does some voodoo science to extract Justin's sweat in order to create a perfume. She uses it on herself to get Justin's on her side.

Khaimook, the convenient plot character, discovers Praewa casting a spell in the bathroom. So now she's like, Praewa's a weirdo who is doing something creepy. Basically nothing has changed since the pilot. Her roommate suggests that Khaimook take a photo or record Praewa the next time she does something weird. Cause maybe she was singing a kpop song or something. And for some reason, Khaimook, the girl who is always seen with camera and taking photos, didn't realize that she should be doing this sooner. Okay, then.

Praewa is now the new It girl on campus. She's Cady Heron about halfway into Mean Girls. People are talking about her in a positive light now that she has joined the cheer team. Apparently the cheer team is like The Plastics from the aforementioned movie.

Praewa continues being weird in public but only Khaimook notices. Cue a jumpscare. There's loads of these in this episode. Maybe that's the reason for the PG-13 rating. Now people are giving Praewa gifts and stuff. And none for Aya and Ping. This sets the two off and they get all bitchier towards Praewa by messing with her voodoo perfume concoction. Ping drops it purposefully and it spills. Scary smokes follow Aya and Ping as they leave, seemingly satisfied with themselves for being horrible people.

Later that evening, Ping gets assaulted by Brave. Except it's not him and it's some bandaged up creature with a super long tongue. The phone rings and the creature disappears. It's Aya facetiming her from a car. Brave is right next to Aya. They ask if Ping wants a ride home from the campus. Ping stupidly says no and walks home alone, because that's what you do after you were attacked, apparently. A bunch of ghosts are trailing right behind her.

The next day, Ping seems unscathed but otherwise achy. The Plastics discuss the center for the team. Aya is likely to win but she says that Ping might too. Ping asks if Aya would be okay with that. She says yes. For now.

Aya goes Live with Ping and someone makes a comment about how one of them is essentially a man stealing ho. Aya is like, idk not me. Ping is also like, idk not me. Except it was her. Someone sends a clip of Ping getting bullied for stealing someone's boyfriend back in high school. But that's not the part that gets Aya into a screaming banshee. It's the fact that Praewa is present in the video and, gasp, Ping and Praewa were friends! Ping denies it at first. Aya accuses her of lying. Ping has always said that she didn't know who Praewa was. And just like that, Ping has her "We should totally just stab Caesar!" moment. She admits that she didn't tell Aya about once being friends with Praewa because Aya is a controlling bitch and she'd rather be a bully too than get bullied by her. And just like that, The Plastics had cracked.

Praewa goes to Ping to gloat about what happened. We flashback to Praewa and Ping in high school. It was Ping's first day there and they quickly bonded. Praewa watched a cheerleading video and mentioned that she'd like to end up in the same university as Ping so we could be friends forever. Later, Praewa's strange mom was there at the school. Praewa quickly told Ping that she had to take her mom home. The nearby students talk about how weird her mom was and Praewa must be the same and the people who were friends with her must be cray cray too! It was a reach, but it was enough to plant a seed in Ping's mind. And this was after Praewa helped scrape off graffiti from Ping's desk. Someone had written 'bitch' on it. You guys, Praewa was perfectly nice and friendly. I still don't understand why they treated her like such an outcast before she went all evil witch. Anyway, this brings us back to the clip where Ping was bullied. Instead of accepting Praewa's help, Ping tells her to leave her the fuck alone. And that was the end of their friendship.

Praewa warns that a friend turned foe is far more dangerous. Ping can't erase her past. Her need to always wanting to be accepted will be her demise. Ping gets ignored by Aya in the bathroom where she discovers strange marks on her body.

It's time for the national producers to choose the next center for the UB cheer team! Brave mentions that it's like, and I quote, "a game in Korea." I suppose he's not too far off. The members visit a link and vote among themselves. Aya gets 3 votes and Ping gets 4 votes. Ping is selected as the new center. Aya throws a fit. She's worked hard for this, she says. Ping points out that she did too but she's willing to forfeit and give the center position to Aya. Aya accuses Ping of trying to make her look bad in front of people. Ping doesn't need to try to be honest. The fact that she only got 3 votes said enough.

It is now performance day. The Plastics are in their uniform. Khaimook is taking photos of the members getting ready. Praewa doesn't like that and throws the camera to the ground causing it to break into pieces. It's excessive but Praewa gets her points across. Lilin says she will speak to Praewa about this for Khaimook.

The performance seems to be going as planned. Khaimook is seen taking photos with the now magically fixed camera. Maybe she has a spare, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. We finally reach the climax where Ping is carried up high by the members. Aya looks up to see the bandaged creature around Ping and freaks out. She breaks formation, causing Ping to tumble down to the ground. Her limbs are twisted. As she lays dying, her mind flashes back to what Praewa had said. We can see the early days of the school year. Ping totally ignores Praewa. Her friends asked why Praewa was staring at her. To which Ping did a Mariah Carey impersonation and said, "I don't know her." She would never be friends with such a weirdo.

Next week, Praewa continues her quest for revenge as she tries to find out who the mysterious girl in the sex tape was. Moral of this episode, don't be such a bitch and you won't suffer an unnatural death. So how many of us ever felt personally victimized by this series?
